Drowning in Air was recorded in Tenerife, thousands of feet above sea level, where the oxygen was just thin enough to start being a problem. A local basement was found which had been carved into the volcanic rock, and was converted into a studio by adding a laptop, soundcard, microphone and a huuuuuge extension cable as there were no electrical plugs. The vocals were recorded with no-one else around. Due to the lack of oxygen resulting in blackouts while screaming, Dr Magic felt he was literally Drowning in Air. No band has ever done this before.
