The more I listen to this album, the more I love it. The one-man army Syd.31 drags so much inspiration from so many bands into this album. 'Machine Ready' and 'Collapsing New Stars' are the tracks that get me pumped. Full review:
The third Syd.31 album! Bigger and more intense than ever before.
Returning to a love of Misfits, WASP, Alice Cooper, The Damned and all the shock horror bands that scared a generation, overlayed with blistering techno beats lovingly inspired by Prodigy, KLF and Pop Will Eat Itself.
Initial reviews capture the vibe of the album:
'Imagine if a bar fight broke out between The Misfits and The Prodigy...absolutely mesmerising…jaw dropping!' - EPITOME OF EPIC
’Machine ready is the formidable devastation of machine enhancement interjected with authentic Human soul… crediting it with ‘….that euphoric rush of endorphins…’ - ELEKTRO VOX
'awe-inspiring....dazzling and mesmerizing...'the best record under Syd.31's belt to date' - BRUTAL RESONANCE
'brutal dance beats... Hardcore riffage and angst-laden screams...Machine Ready is something I'm sure you'll love.' - CULT OF DAN PEACH
'raw guitar attack that is a homage to Discharge...big riffs mark this album out.' - LOUDER THAN WAR
'strikes the anvil hot and hard... explosive rockers full of frenzied drum & bass beats - REGEN MAGAZINE
'The best records are like the best films. they create tangible worlds in which a story is told. Machine Ready, does exactly that. In spades!..'It’s the best, and most honest case for being human I’ve heard...' - ANGEL FIRE MEDIA
'Syd.31 are an amazing band that wrecks everything in their path..Machine Ready is filthy' - CULTURE ASYLUM MAGAZINE
'a phenomena in music that is as PUNK as you can get' - THE PUNK SITE
'a horror-punk monster.... almost Prodigy-wise... a wonderfully intense combination of drum & bass, metal, electro, punk and industrial.' - LUMINOUS DASH
'brilliant...infectious...Listen to Machine Ready now' - DEVOLUTION MAGAZINE
My first ever truly solo album. Mostly due to Covid and lockdown I couldn't collaborate with any other vocalist or musician. Not even my usual backing crowd vocals.
I ended up doing all main and backing vocals by myself. I played rhythm and lead guitar and bass guitar too. Some tracks having eight channels of guitars. It took a while to record it, but I loved every second.
I got to channel the soundscapes of four of my favorite albums:
Misfits – Earth AD
Therapy? – Troublegum
WASP – The Headless Children
Discharge – Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing
All percussion and drums were written and programmed using techniques the original hip-hop artists used, like Eric B and Rakim and early NWA.
The album concept was inspired by a book at school warning of the dangers of Satanic music and Devil worshiping bands. I was left wondering what these bands sounded like years before ever hearing them. Only my imagination could tell me.
Their descriptions of WASP, Sex Pistols, The Cramps, Alice Cooper, Misfits, and The Damned created one hell of a concept - 'the beat of the shrieking discordant music'. All these horror punk and shock metal artists they panicked over helped me formulate a sound I've finally captured.
What would a literal demon punk band sounds like, hiding in plain view?
A sulfurous bass tone, demonic guitars, cacophonic vocals and broken beats unite to forge a punk- metal sound that book would have feared.
Every track is biographical. Continuing a theme of only singing about true events and real people.
This album is a deeply personal creation and I hope you enjoy escaping into the soundscapes these stories created.
